MOON SUITE

Project awarded in the prestigious European Property Awards 2023 competition

“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The apartment was designed for a busy, always-on-the-go couple with two children.

Contemporary interior architecture is evolving toward elegant simplicity. It is grounded in clean lines, neutral color palettes, and natural materials such as wood, porous stone, and textured ceramics. Rather than rich decorative elements, interiors are shaped by minimalist furniture arrangements focused on functionality. The investors embraced the suggestion to approach the design of this two-level apartment in the same spirit.

The key components of the composition are the furnishings rather than the wall colors. The backdrop is formed by various off-white shades, along with tones of beige, gray, and brown. A particularly important role is played by the rich, varied array of textures that are highlighted by the changing light throughout the day. Sunlight streams through the windows of the two-story living area by day, and moonlight by night. The moon’s fascinating structure is echoed in the sintered stone cladding that mimics rock salt around the bio-fireplace, as well as in the porous travertine used, for instance, in the bases of the coffee tables. The moon also inspired a poured resin artwork, created specifically for this space by Anna Błaszczyk, serving as the signature piece of the interior.

The two-level apartment was meant to radiate the atmosphere of a luxurious vacation hotel while still responding to the everyday needs of a couple with two children. One of the major design challenges was concealing the strictly practical side of the home and expanding the storage areas. At the same time, the entire space, as requested by the owners, remains visually open and full of light, while also providing suitable conditions for quiet work (in the downstairs office) and relaxation (upstairs). All this was done to ensure that the prose of daily life would not disturb the ambiance of a never-ending holiday.
